The FIA Formula Regional European Championship will expand from eight to 10 rounds in 2027. Following a successful inaugural season in 2026, in which the title was decided at the final race in Hockenheim and 11 different drivers claimed victory, the series featuring the new-generation Tatuus T-326 single-seater will embark on a new chapter.

Held under full FIA status and organised and promoted by the Automobile Club d’Italia (ACI), the championship will adopt a consistent format in 2027, with two qualifying sessions and two races at every round, replacing the varying 2026 format that saw some events feature three races, including one with a reverse grid. The expanded calendar will also give the championship a more regular rhythm, with race weekends taking place more frequently throughout the season.

Three circuits will join the calendar compared with this season, with Portimão and Silverstone making their first appearances. Barcelona will also return to the calendar, having hosted the category before the inaugural FIA championship season in 2026. Red Bull Ring, Spa-Francorchamps, Paul Ricard, Hungaroring, Zandvoort, Imola and Monza have all been confirmed, bringing the number of venues shared with the 2027 Formula 1 calendar to six.

The season will get underway at the Autodromo do Algarve on 9–11 April, sharing the bill with the International GT Open. Two weeks later, the championship will travel to Austria’s Red Bull Ring as part of the DTM weekend. The European series will then make its first visit to Silverstone on 14–16 May, before heading to Belgium one month later. Spa-Francorchamps will host the FIA Formula Regional European Championship on 18–20 June as part of the SRO SpeedWeek. The series will return to France’s Circuit Paul Ricard on the weekend of 16–18 July, alongside the International GT Open.

The summer round at the Hungaroring, scheduled for the weekend of 30 July–1 August, will be one of the highlights of the season, with the championship racing in support of the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix (* subject to contract). The event will provide drivers and teams with the opportunity to compete on one of motorsport’s biggest stages. Just one week later, the FIA FREC will return to Zandvoort in the Netherlands, once again appearing alongside the DTM.

Following the summer break, the series will contest its two Italian rounds at Imola and Monza as part of the ACI Racing Weekends. The final round of the 2027 season will take place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on 8–10 October, once again alongside the International GT Open.

FIA Single-Seater Commission President Emanuele Pirro said: “The success of FIA FREC’s inaugural season, with 11 different winners, has given us a strong foundation for 2027. Expanding to 10 rounds responds to the wishes of the teams, while the revised weekend format and the spacing between events reflect feedback from drivers, teams and partners. While the round is subject to contract, the chance to race alongside Formula 1 at the Hungaroring will give our drivers, mechanics and engineers an invaluable opportunity to showcase their potential on one of the sport’s biggest stages.”

ACI Sport General Manager Mario Isola said: “The FIA Formula Regional European Championship plays an important role in developing the next generation of single-seater talent. Working closely with the FIA, ACI Sport is committed to giving drivers and teams a strong sporting platform as the championship grows to 10 rounds in 2027. We are also proud that Imola and Monza, two circuits with a special place in Italian motorsport, will host the championship as part of the ACI Racing Weekends.”
