Intercontinental GT – Quality and variety amongst provisional Suzuka 1000km entry list

The Summer Endurance Race will take place at the Suzuka 1000km from September 11 to 13, part of the Intercontinental GT Challenge 2026. This year will feature an entry list of 28 cars, with eight different manufacturers, including Chevrolet, Ferrari, Ford, Lexus, Mercedes-AMG, Nissan, Porsche, and last year’s winner BMW. While BMW is participating, it does not have a leading contender among its drivers, although they feature experienced talent.

Over two-thirds of the cars are entered by regional Asian teams, with 12 of those being Japanese. Fans will be excited to see Nissan and Lexus competing, particularly due to strong Japanese Pro driver line-ups. Notably, Super GT star Katsumasa Chiyo is back with the GT-R NISMO, marking a highlight of the event. However, Nissan and Lexus will not earn IGTC points since the scoring is limited to six registered brands competing in the series.

There is a record number of entrants for the IGTC Independent Cup, with drivers such as Kenny Habul, Jefri Ibrahim, and Li Kerong among them. Maro Engel, the overall championship leader, will face competition from his Mercedes-AMG teammates Luca Stolz and Maxime Martin as they try to close the gap on his points lead. The team includes ADAC Ravenol 24h Nürburgring winners along with talented Japanese driver Kakunoshin Ohta.

Porsche and Mercedes-AMG both have strong line-ups, though Porsche has more cars in the race. Stuttgart currently leads the manufacturers’ title chase by eight points over Affalterbach. Chevrolet will have Nicky Catsburg, Alexander Sims, and IndyCar driver Scott McLaughlin as their driving team. Ferrari is also represented by the Japanese team PONOS RACING, featuring Tadasuke Makino and Seita Nonaka.

Ford is joining the race with a Mustang, supported by Australian partners. Max Hesse is BMW’s best driver in terms of points but faces a significant challenge to catch Engel. The race weekend will start with testing and Night Practice on Friday, followed by Pre-Qualifying and Qualifying on Saturday, leading to the race on Sunday.

Tuttavia, Nissan e Lexus non conquisteranno punti IGTC, poiché il punteggio è limitato a sei marchi iscritti al campionato.
