Ocean Racing Technology at the foot of the podium at Silverstone

This weekend, Ocean Racing Technology took part in the 13th and 14th races of the GP2 Series on the Silverstone Circuit. Despite the extreme, changing weather conditions, the Portuguese team concluded its first race at the foot of the podium, thanks to Nigel Melker, who added to his excellent result from Saturday with a 6th place finish in the second race. Nigel Melker’s happiness was contagious for Ocean Racing Technology, which has spent the past several races awaiting results up to his potential. “I am very happy. The context of both races was very complicated and it is a result that comes at just the right time, because we have been waiting for it for so long,” declared the Dutch driver. “We can all be proud, and I hope to be able to keep this pace until the end of the season.”

Victor Guerin underwent a new experience in his very young GP2 Series career. The Brazilian had never raced at Silverstone, but he quickly adapted to the unusual conditions. He was in a good position in the first race, but after a few interventions by the safety car, he lost several positions and finished in 18th place. Sunday, he lost the control of his car on a puddle of water in the formation lap, and did not take part in the race.

“My debut on this circuit was not the easiest it could be with all this rain,” declared Victor Guerin,”But I carried out this task well, even if I would have liked to take part in the second race. But I think that sooner or later my work will pay off.”

Tiago Monteiro and José Guedes hailed the work of their team under particularly difficult conditions. “This is additional motivation for the whole team. Nigel was fast, consistent, and reliable, and he deserves his results. We will continue our work, we are on the right track, and we hope to have the same level of performance in the upcoming races,” explained the Portuguese team’s two directors.

The next GP2 Series races will be held in Hockenheim, Germany, July 21 & 22.
