AVF hits the top despite gearbox issue

As the teams and drivers of the Formula Renault 3.5 championship rounded out the final day of preseason testing in Alcaniz, AVF by Adrián Vallés showed some really good potential at the Motorland Aragón venue today. Despite a gearbox issue during the morning segment, Dutch female racer Beitske Visser scored the fourth fastest lap of the session, showing the true pace of his Zytek-powered Dallara with the low downforce package.

Following a tight work assignment, featuring long runs with old and new tires, a miscalculation regarding the quantity of fuel on-board lead the stewards to delete Visser’s second-fastest performance in the afternoon.

Mexican racer Alfonso Celis also made some steady progress as he continued to push his limit forward. The AVF stable will now be back at the Motorland Aragón for the opening round of the World Series Renault on April 25th and 26th.
Alfonso Celis

“I think the car was really good during the morning session although I was a little disturbed by the wind. We also ran a race simulation that went well so we have good hopes for next month’s round. Compared to Jerez, I had much more confidence with the low downforce package and I’m looking forward to do a good job this season”

“We had an intense but also positive day. In the afternoon, I think that we could have showed the same level of performance even without the issue that led to the penalty. It was just a small misjudgement. If we look at our performance we can be happy, as we’re pretty competitive with the low downforce package. I expect to fight for the top-5 during the races”
