Maximilian Hackl will compete in a Franz Wöss Racing Dallara 307 Opel OPC in the ATS Formula 3 Trophy ranking. The 20-year old from Ruderting, Bavaria made an impact when he won a race in the 2012 season. And he intends to secure more podium positions in 2013. Franz Wöss will take on a double role, as the 55-year old from Schwarzenberg, Upper Austria will both contest the season with his own team and act as 2nd chairman of the Formula 3 Association for the first time.
Maximilian Hackl caused somewhat of a sensation in August 2012. The Bavarian celebrated a successful debut, both in the Franz Wöss Racing team and in the ATS Formula 3 Trophy ranking. Competing as a guest driver, Maximilian Hackl finished first. Three second places behind the later champion André Rudersdorf followed. As a result of these top positions, Maxi, as his friends call him, scored the sixth place in the overall standings of the 2012 ATS Formula 3 Trophy. The 20-year old finishedninth in the rookie ranking. Having scored two victories and two second places, Maximilian Hackl also grabbed the vice title of the Formula 3 Championship in his team’s home country, Austria. His team principal secured the first place. “Maxi is a calm and determined guy who knows exactly what he wants to achieve and consequently pursues his goals,” says Franz Wöss. “He is able to improve in the race, knows what is going on and avoids pointless moves.”
Double role in the ATS Formula 3 Cup
Franz Wöss will not only contest the 2013 season with his own team but also act as 2nd chairman of the Formula 3 Association for the first time. The 55-year old from Schwarzenberg is familiar with the requirements of the teams and drivers. As the former organiser of the Austria Formula 3 Cup he knows exactly what is required at the racetrack. “I bring a lot of experience and can support and advise the board on decisions and planning matters.”
Maximilian Hackl will compete in a Dallara 307 Opel OPC in the ATS Formula 3 Trophy ranking, the chassis being Lucas di Grassi’s world championship winning car of 2005 in Macau. “I am convinced that we have a great package, including the Dallara Chassis, a Spiess OPC engine and a Drexler gearbox,” says Franz Wöss.
Setting their sights on top positions
A decision is still pending on whether a second car will be entered for the season. Christopher Höher from Spittal an der Drau will compete in individual races. The young talent from Carinthia won the 2012 Austrian state championship for formula 1400 cars for Franz Wöss Racing. Maximilian Hackl will return from his work experience programme in Australia at the beginning of March. “I am determined to get back on the podium. Even though I am not sure yet how strong my competitors are, I intend to be one of the front-runners.”
