Sprint Cup set for epic Spanish showdown as GT World heads to Barcelona

Champions will be determined next weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya during the final round of the 2026 Sprint Cup for GT World. The event will feature an exciting eight-way competition for the overall Sprint Cup drivers’ title, along with races in the Gold Cup and Bronze Cup classes, all within a large 44-car field. Fans attending the event will enjoy various activities, including a fan zone, supercar displays, and high-level support series.

The Barcelona event is part of the annual Festival de la Velocidad, benefiting the Legado María de Villota foundation. This year marks the 11th consecutive year that GT World has participated in this festival. The event in Barcelona is the first of two back-to-back title deciders, with the closing Endurance Cup race taking place in Portimão from October 16 to 18.

The Sprint Cup this year has been very competitive, leading to a thrilling eight-way race for the title. The leading drivers include Ricardo Feller and Bastian Buus from the Porsche squad Lionspeed GP, followed closely by Arthur Leclerc and Thomas Neubauer from AF Corse Ferrari, and Dani Juncadella from Mercedes-AMG Team Verstappen Racing. Just six points separate the top three contenders, highlighting the intense competition.

Defending champions Charles Weerts and Kelvin van der Linde from Team WRT BMW still have a chance, despite recent performance issues. Other challengers for the title include Maro Engel and Lucas Auer from Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG, Thierry Vermeulen and Ben Green from Emil Frey Racing Ferrari, Valentino Rossi and Max Hesse from Team WRT BMW, and Dorian Boccolacci from Boutsen VDS Porsche.

Additionally, titles in the Gold Cup and Bronze Cup classes remain undecided. The Gold Cup has been led since the season’s opening race by Tommaso Mosca and Matias Zagazeta from AF Corse Ferrari, while Peter Dempsey and Eddie Cheever from Ziggo Sport Tempesta Racing Porsche recently took the lead in the Bronze Cup. The Silver Cup was decided early in favor of Matisse Lismont and Ignacio Montenegro, who also secured the combined title.

At the Barcelona event, the public will have access to an open paddock, which includes a dedicated fan zone featuring food and drink stalls, merchandise, and big screens. Fans can meet drivers during an autograph session on Sunday at 13:00, and there will be a display of over 20 supercars and an exhibition dedicated to Tesla. Admission to the paddock is included with general tickets.

Aspiring racers have the chance to participate in an E-MOTION simulator and enter THE GRID On Tour, which allows one winner to race in the Championnat de France FFSA GT in 2027. The event will also showcase three support series, each running two races, contributing to nearly eight hours of competitive track action.

Tickets for Barcelona start at 25€, with a three-day pass available for 55€, granting access to various spectator areas and the paddock. Children aged 12 and under can enter for free if accompanied by a paying adult. Free parking will be available outside the circuit, which is accessible through Gate 3.

For those unable to attend, GT World Challenge races will be streamed live on the GT World YouTube channel. Live coverage from Barcelona begins with Qualifying 1 at 09:50 on Saturday, followed by Race 1 at 14:00. A similar schedule will follow on Sunday.
