ATS Formel 3 Cup – Qualifying postponed due to fog

It is one of the highlights on the racing calendar of the ATS Formula 3 Cup. And it is the first time after 2009 that the young race drivers compete as part of the support programme of the ADAC Zurich 24-Hour Race. Dense fog turned today’s schedule upside down. Race control postponed this morning’s qualifying session to Saturday at 8.10 a.m., in order not to put the safety of the drivers at risk.

Jan Schwitter (Rennsport Rössler / Dallara F307 OPC-Challenge) and Thomas Amweg (Jo Zeller Racing / Dallara F311 Mercedes) will make their debut in the ATS Formula 3 Cup this weekend. However, the programme of the ADAC Zurich 24-Hour Race needed to be modified due to dense fog. As a result, the 21 drivers and their teams, including local favourite Sebastian Balthasar (GU-Racing / Dallara F311 Mercedes), had to return to the paddock. With the security standards in mind, race control did not go through with the qualifying.

New time line
This is the new schedule for the ATS Formula 3 Cup within the support programme of the ADAC Zurich 24-Hour Race: the qualifying will take place on Saturday at 8.10 a.m., the first race will follow in the time slot at 7.25 p.m. Race 2 will be cancelled without substitution. Race three will take place at the usual time, on Sunday at 1.45 p.m., directly before the start of the ADAC Zurich 24-Hour Race.

It will be the first time since 2009 for the single-seaters to be racing at the 4.638-km Grand Prix track in the Eifel. It will mark the revival of a tradition since it is the fifth time that the fastest German Formula series is part of the support programme of the 24-Hour Race.
