Just over fifty entries have been received for the Rally del Ticino, a race counting towards the Swiss National Championship that will take place on Friday, September 18, and Saturday, September 19. The lineup includes multiple champion Kevin Gilardoni in a Toyota, as well as Mirko Puricelli with the powerful Citroën C3 WRC+ and Marco Silva—hailing from the Lake Como area—driving the brand-new Lancia Ypsilon Rally2; the participation of the talented Simone Miele is also a highlight. The race will be held on the Valcolla and Malcantone stages, in addition to the spectacular “Chicco d’Oro” stage.
Registration for the 28th Rally del Ticino has closed. The route changes introduced by the Organizing Committee have attracted 54 competitors to the Mendrisiotto region and the valleys; they will compete over a course of approximately sixty kilometers this coming Friday and Saturday. Moving away from military areas, competitors will first tackle the spectacular “Chicco d’Oro” stage on Friday the 18th, followed by the challenging Valcolla, Malcantone, and Valcolla Mini stages scheduled for Saturday, September 19.
Entrants—The favorite to win is undoubtedly six-time champion Kevin Gilardoni, the event’s record holder. For statistics enthusiasts, the Italian-Swiss driver is poised to set another record: Gilardoni has previously won with four different cars (Hyundai WRC, Citroën C3 WRC+, Škoda Fabia Rally2, and Ford Fiesta WRC), and this year he is switching machinery again, lining up in a Toyota Yaris GR Rally2 alongside co-driver Corrado Bonato. However, he will face stiff competition once again. The lineup ranges from Nicholas Lathion (3rd at the Jurassien and 4th at the Chablais), who is chasing the national title, to Marco Silva—a strong, seasoned driver from Como competing in a gleaming Lancia Ypsilon—and multi-champion Simone Miele, racing a Skoda Fabia Rally2, as well as local driver Mirko Puricelli, behind the wheel of the high-performance Citroën C3 WRC+.
An Alpine A110 (Rappaz-Aubry) and a Porsche 991 GT3 (Gnani-Mille) are among the other highlights on the entry list published on the official website. Following the modern cars, historic rally competitors will also take to the course. Eight historic cars are entered, including models such as the BMW M3, Opel Ascona and Manta, Mitsubishi, and Ford.
The event’s hub will be the Hotel Coronado in Mendrisio, serving as the start and finish point, as well as the location for the press room, race control, and results center.
