Nicola Lacorte reigns supreme at the Temple of Speed. The young Tuscan driver accomplished a remarkable feat in Monza, claiming his first FIA Formula 3 victory.

A prophet in his own country, the DAMS Lucas Oil team driver, in front of his home crowd in an extraordinary setting, left everyone behind in Sunday’s Feature Race, the most important race. He did so after securing a solid ninth place in the Sprint Race, repeating his performance at the Red Bull Ring. This ninth place came after a positive weekend at the Hungaroring, which culminated with a seventh-place finish in the shorter race.

At Monza, the Pisan did even better, posting the second-fastest time in his group in qualifying and earning a spot on the second row for Sunday’s race. He then managed the race brilliantly. Lacorte put in an extraordinary performance, despite a safety car and the resulting restart in the closing stages.

A Feature Race that saw him start cautiously in third, preferring to conserve his tires in the early stages while also staying as far away from potential trouble as possible.

He systematically closed a gap to the top four by playing the tire card, which he expertly preserved, first allowing him to move up the order and then, once in the lead, to manage the fact that he couldn’t take advantage of the DRS.

After the final safety car, Lacorte once again held his nerve and ultimately managed to contain the pressure from Finn Tuukka Taponen, the latter finishing second in a near-sprint finish.

A textbook performance, which highlighted the growth path of the Tuscan (who turned 19 last June), who is also the 13th driver to score this year in the championship: a true record for the category.

“I’m really happy with today’s victory, which I also achieved at my home race, which adds an extra emotional value for me,” Lacorte commented. “This weekend I had a truly perfect car at my disposal. With the team, we managed to fine-tune the setup for qualifying, then made some changes for the race that proved to be successful. It was an unforgettable day for me. I want to thank everyone who contributed to this result.”

With the victory achieved at his home track of Monza, Lacorte will arrive at the Madring next weekend (September 11-13), the venue for the final round of the calendar, confident that he can try again and certainly with an extra edge.
