Lindenberg Racing enjoyed a great weekend at the Jaguar Simola Hill Climb as it took to the Knysna incline in a wide variety of Shelbys, Peranas and Fords.
The team had a busy Classic car Friday, where Paige Lindenberg hustled her monster Ford Fairlane up the hill in fine style to claim 6th in class and an impressive 14th overall – and within spitting distance of Djurk Venter, who brought his Capri Perana home 13th overall and 5th in class out of a field of 53 cars.
Paige’s dad and team principal Peter Lindenberg made a welcome return to racing to finish 7th overall and 4th in class in his Shelby GT350, while Justin Price impressed to bring the Lindenberg Racing Shelby Daytona Coupé home to a popular class win en route to fourth overall.
“I’m usually fighting over a piece of racetrack with my wife Kirsten, so today was a different angle on it against Paige,” Djurk Venter grinned. “But that’s another one for the lads!” Miss Lindenberg shrugged off her narrow defeat: “That was one exciting day!” Paige enthused. “The Fairlane is a tough one to take up the hill, but I loved every minute.”
“I was delighted to be back in my ’65 Shelby GT350 replica and racing again,” Peter Lindenberg admitted. “It was great to toss it up that hill in anger after a few months out of the car and 7th overall was way better than I expected,.” Justin Price was just as happy too. “I had an awesome time – my goal was to finish in the top 10 overall, so I think I surprised a few people with a Class win and fourth overall. “Thanks so much to Peter for inviting me and Djurk for letting me run his Coupé up the hill.”
Peter and Paige Lindenberg were also entered in the weekend’s King of the Hill, where Peter was asked to drive Hi-tech automotive’s prototype Perana Ranger V8 Bakkie. “Wow, what a beast!” Peter admitted. “What a revelation – that bakkie certainly won the crowd over and it was a treat to drive the Perana up the hill – it was an experience I will cherish and I can’t wait for more of it!” Lindenberg ended up third in class on the day.
The King of the Hill never quite got going for Paige, who bent the Shelby’s suspension in first practice to be sidelined for the weekend. “Saturday’s events in the Shelby were a serious let down,” Paige confessed. “But I guess that’s racing – onwards and upwards!”
