Sebring 12 hours: Free Practice 2: Audi still quickest

Competitors set off at 14:50 for the second free practice session of the Sebring 12 Hours in the muggy heat of Florida. The two interruptions due to red flags was short-lived and the teams were able to put in a good number of laps to improve the settings of their cars. Andre Lotterer was the fastest at the wheel of the Audi R18 # 1 with a time of 1’47” 761, nearly a second faster than the fastest lap of the first session. “There are a lot of traffic about, so times are not representative”, said Andre Lotterer. “I was lucky enough to have a lap more or less clear. We worked hard to improve the car at Sebring because there is always something to improve, because the circuit is constantly changing depending on the weather. ” The other two Audis were 2nd and 3rd fatest.

Level 5 Motorsports (ALMS) continue to dominate the LM P2 class with two fastest times. This morning, the HPD-Honda #055 was the fastest, but this afternoon it was the sister car #95 that set a time of 1’53” 094. The Morgan #37 of Conquest Endurance (ALMS) was less than a tenth off second place and was ahead of the Morgan-Judd #24 of OAK Racing, the first competitor in the FIA World Endurance Championship category.

The Ferrari took over the front of LM GTE Pro with the car #51 of AF Corse setting a time of 2’00’334, more than a second faster than the Corvette #4 in the morning session . The BMW #155 of RLL (ALMS) was five tenths behind and Porsche #45 of Flying Lizard (ALMS) nearly a second off.

The #50 Corvette of Larbre Competition has dominated LM GTE Am with a time of 2’02” 747 over two other competitors in the FIA World Endurance Championship, the Ferrari #58 of Luxury Racing and the #57 Ferrari of Krohn Racing.

The second free practice session does not mark the end of the day. Tonight will be the 1 hour 45min evening practice session from 7:35pm local time.
