Teams can now enter the 24H BARCELONA, fourth round of the 2014 24H SERIES powered by Dunlop. With the Dunlop 24 DUBAI and the Dunlop 12H ITALY-MUGELLO already in the books and the inaugural Dunlop 12H ZANDVOORT coming up on May 30 and 31, the 24H SERIES powered by Dunlop is in full swing. After the Zandvoort round and the summer break, action resumes with the 24H BARCELONA, to be held at Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona from September 5 till 7. For the fourth consecutive year, Dutch agency CREVENTIC is promoting the event, together with the circuit management and the Royal Automobile Club of Catalunya. “It is a great pleasure for us to see this event growing over the years,” says Gerrie Willems on behalf of CREVENTIC. “The development is similar to that of our flagship event, the Dunlop 24H DUBAI. It is great to have the 24H BARCELONA in the portfolio of our 24H SERIES powered by Dunlop and we are already looking forward to this year’s race!”
     

Teams can now submit their entries for the 24H BARCELONA. Like in previous years, the entry fee is very attractive and includes fuel for the entire event, to be distributed by the central fuel station in the pit lane. A full rundown of the various classes and the respective entry fees can be found on the website, www.24hseries-com. “Given the success of our race in Italy and the huge interest for the Zandvoort round, we expect many teams for Barcelona as well, so we advise teams wanting to compete there to act quickly and submit their pre-registration,” Gerrie Willems says.
 
Last year’s race had a very strong entry with good competition in the various classes. In the 2013 running of the event, touring cars filled 60 percent of the grid. The touring car classes with Renault Clios and the SEAT Leon Supercopa, built in Martorell, only a few kilometres away from the Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona, were the biggest classes and saw great racing as a result. GT cars accounted for the remaining 40 percent of the grid. “While we had a variety of GT3 cars winning the race in the last three years with the BMW Z4 GT3 in 2011, the McLaren MP4-12C GT3 in 2012 and the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 last year, it is also possible to score an overall podium finish with a Porsche 997 Cup car or an SP2 car, like Dutch team MDM did last year with its BMW 320D, an astonishing achievement and probably a one-off. All of this ensures very interesting competition,” Gerrie Willems explains. “Once again, this is proof that our races are very attractive for gentlemen drivers, too. In Dubai, they can compete in the A6-Am class we introduced in 2013, while in Barcelona, they can also challenge for an overall podium result. Moreover, the races in Barcelona in previous years clearly showed that SP2 and SP3 cars can be very competitive, too!”
     
 
The Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona was opened in September, 1991 and has since hosted the Spanish round of the Formula 1 World Championship every year. It is also a regular fixture on the annual MotoGP calendar. The circuit is described as technical and offers state-of-the-art facilities with spacious pit boxes, VIP lounges and numerous grandstands. Of course, the weather in Barcelona in the first half of September is usually nice, and the city itself needs no further introduction, as it is one of Europe’s favourite destinations for a weekend break or even a longer stay.
