When he made pole position in the qualifying session reserved for “Pro” drivers, Enzo Guibbert, the “Volant Euroformula” 2012, set the path for a great performance in the second race. The young Enzo Guibbert would hold on to first place from the start and throughout his relay until he handed the wheel of his Porsche 997 GT3-R supplied by the Pro GT team to co-driver Eric Dermont with a five second lead on his nearest rival. He also took the record lap and it is safe to say the “Volant Euroformula” was the main topic of conversation! Eric Dermont then held his own against far more experienced drivers and only relinquished enough to finish on the podium in a nice third place.
If Enzo Guibbert had hoped for a better result considering his performance in the qualifiers and the race, this podium came just at the right time to remind all the team managers of his name. Having had a few less successful meetings, Enzo Guibbert never lost heart, he knew exactly where he was going:
“We always worked hard but we often lacked the success to crystallise everyone’s efforts. I never let the problems get me down and I always believed in our chances. In Ledenon we were finally able to drive on dry tracks from Friday through to Sunday and, when you still lack experience like I do, that’s important to set it all up. We were able to do that this weekend! I managed to drive an almost perfect lap in the qualifiers which put me in pole position and I carried on from there. I am really happy and I want to thank my whole team for giving me a car in top condition. In race 2 my co-driver Eric had a good relay despite being up against more experienced drivers. I was able to show all the progress I’ve made from the start of the season and it’s looking good for the last challenge on the Castellet circuit. I can’t wait to be on that circuit because we had two days spinning wheels on it and I feel comfortable with its layout. We will do everything we can to get a good result.”
For Laurent Fradon, the director of Euroformula, this result confirms the faith placed in Enzo Guibbert: “I knew Enzo had it in him to get good results but he needed to make it reality. He’s done that today and Enzo just needs to finish the season well now. His successor as “Volant Euroformula” will be known very soon. The next meeting for the F.F.S.A. French GT Championship is set for October 26 and 27 on the Castellet circuit.
