The goal is a victory in the Trophy ranking

The Formula 3 Association is going to accept FPT engines from Italy and Spanish Toyota power units in the Trophy ranking, in order to enable the teams to have a cost-effective start. However, only the Volkswagen Power Engine is permitted in the ATS Formula 3 Cup. This is one of the reasons why the Trophy ranking is becoming more and more popular. Another rookie is joining the Formula 3 family today: Freddy Killensberger will compete in the Trophy ranking in 2013 for the German GU-Racing team. Team Principal Günter Unterreitmeier and Killensberger aim high – for the victory.

Günter Unterreitmeier and Freddy Killensberger have ambitious plans. The 17-year old from Wortelstetten near Augsburg will contest the season for the GU-Racing team from Velden, Bavaria again. This time, he intends to prove himself in the ATS Formula 3 Cup. “We are looking forward to continue last year’s successful collaboration with Freddy in 2013,” says Team Principal Unterreitmeier. “Freddy advanced well in our team last year. The rookie title and the second place in the overall standings of the Swiss Formula Junior Masters are perfect examples.”

The competitors in the rearview mirror
GU-Racing is clearly focused on winning in 2013. “Winning the Trophy title will be extremely hard because the drivers and teams competing in the German Formula 3 are always very good. Considering the strong competition it will be very challenging,” explains Unterreitmeier. Starting in a F307 with an OPC Challenge engine, Killensberger is aware of his strong competitors. “I will learn a lot this season, gain experience, become familiar with the car and, of course, continue to improve,” says Killensberger.

GU-Racing is in the final stages of their preparations for the season and will soon continue on the track. Sufficient test days are scheduled before the start of the season. “The whole team is looking forward to a successful season,” says Unterreitmeier. Another driver will join the team shortly. The team also plans to enter a third car. The search for a driver is still under way.
