For Manuel Sossella, the recent 34th Rally Città di Schio was defined—among other things—by the number 3: it was both his assigned race number and his final overall ranking. Returning to the wheel of the Pirelli-shod PA Racing Skoda Fabia RS after a nearly three-month hiatus from rallying, Sossella was once again joined by co-driver Gabriele Falzone. Upon reviewing the entry list, the Rally Team New Turbomark duo set their sights on a third-place overall finish; given the outcome, they achieved this goal to the evident satisfaction of both the driver from Vicenza and his co-driver.
“Finding myself battling against professional drivers like Nucita and Trentin—to whom I offer my congratulations—as well as all the other drivers in Rally 2 cars, made me realize that, even with my limited schedule this season, third place overall was the target to aim for,” Sossella recounted. “Gabriele and I succeeded, thanks in no small part to the flawless performance of the Pirelli-shod Fabia provided by PA Racing; it gave us the confidence to tackle the Città di Schio—now back to its rightful high standards—with the best possible setup. I struggled a bit on Friday’s Pedescala stage, but on the remaining stages—thanks to constant consultation with PA’s technicians and guidance from our sporting director, Matteo Bottacin—I improved my feel for the Fabia RS. Ultimately, I am very satisfied with what we accomplished over that Friday and Saturday. I’d like to take this opportunity, once again, to thank PA Racing first and foremost; my supporters, who back my racing with unwavering passion; the Rally Team New Turbomark squad; my recce crews; my family, who follow me with boundless enthusiasm; and everyone who has passionately followed my races over the years.” An analysis of Sossella’s performance reveals a marked improvement on the second day—particularly during the repeat run of the “Santa Caterina” stage, the event’s centerpiece and the test that best showcased driving skill. Clocking the second-fastest overall time on two occasions confirms the strong pace Sossella maintained, especially during the second leg; having secured third place, he successfully defended the position through to the end of a rally that concluded on a highly positive note.
