GT3 Revival Series – Von Oeynhausen stars at the Nürburgring as Beaubelique wraps up inaugural Pro-Am title

The GT3 Revival Series crowned its first champion at the Nürburgring during the penultimate round of the season, leaving another title contest to be decided at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The event featured a lot of action, new race winners, and iconic cars, with the second race being decided on the final lap.

Jean-Luc Beaubelique secured the Pro-Am title despite experiencing his first retirement of the season. His retirement opened the door for Christoff von Oeynhausen, who put in a strong effort to stay in the championship race. Von Oeynhausen drove a BMW Z4 that had previously competed in the Blancpain GT Series and British GT. He qualified first for Race 1 and led for most of the race, with stiff competition from Heiko Neumann and Nick Padmore, who were racing in Mercedes-Benz and Audi cars, respectively. Beaubelique was running well until a collision with another driver forced him to retire.

As the race continued, von Oeynhausen faced pressure from Neumann before gaining some ground as the pit stops approached. After the stops, Padmore briefly took the lead but was penalized for not completing the full pit stop time, which allowed von Oeynhausen to pass him and secure his first GT3 Revival Series win, marking a significant achievement for the BMW Z4.

Padmore finished the race in third place, with Neumann taking second and winning the Am Gen II class. Eric Debard also excelled in the Am Gen I category, finishing fifth overall and achieving his seventh consecutive win in his Ford GT.

On Sunday, Beaubelique had another chance to secure the Pro-Am title. His co-driver, Jim Pla, started the race from pole and built a strong lead. Meanwhile, von Oeynhausen faced an incident on the opening lap but managed to avoid damage. When Beaubelique handed the car to him with under 20 minutes left, it looked promising for clinching the title.

However, a safety car deployment changed the race dynamics. Once the race restarted, von Oeynhausen fought his way past several competitors, eventually passing Padmore on the final lap to win the race. Despite his victory, Beaubelique finished as the Pro-Am runner-up, which was enough for him to clinch the championship with one round remaining.

Padmore celebrated his victory in the Am Gen II class, while Neumann moved to the top of the class standings ahead of the final round. Both he and others are in contention for the title at the next event. Meanwhile, Debard experienced issues late in the race but still won in the Am Gen I class, putting him and his teammate in a position to contend for the championship based on their lineup for the final races.

The inaugural season of the GT3 Revival Series will conclude with two more races at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on October 3 and 4.

Padmore ha concluso la gara al terzo posto, con Neumann secondo e vincitore nella classe Am Gen II. Anche Eric Debard si è distinto nella categoria Am Gen I, terminando quinto assoluto e ottenendo la sua settima vittoria consecutiva con la sua Ford GT.

Domenica, Beaubelique ha avuto un’altra occasione per aggiudicarsi il titolo Pro-Am. Il suo copilota, Jim Pla, è partito dalla pole position e ha accumulato un buon vantaggio. Nel frattempo, von Oeynhausen è stato coinvolto in un incidente al primo giro, ma è riuscito a evitare danni. Quando Beaubelique gli ha ceduto la vettura a meno di 20 minuti dalla fine, la situazione sembrava promettente per la conquista del titolo.

Tuttavia, l’ingresso della safety car ha cambiato le dinamiche della gara. Nonostante la vittoria, Beaubelique ha chiuso al secondo posto nella categoria Pro-Am, risultato sufficiente per conquistare il campionato con una gara d’anticipo.

Padmore ha festeggiato la vittoria nella categoria Am Gen II, mentre Neumann si è portato in testa alla classifica di categoria in vista dell’ultima gara. Sia lui che altri piloti sono in lizza per il titolo al prossimo appuntamento. Nel frattempo, Debard ha avuto problemi nelle fasi finali della gara, ma è comunque riuscito a vincere nella categoria Am Gen I, mettendo lui e il suo compagno di squadra in condizione di lottare per il campionato in base alla formazione che schiereranno nelle ultime gare.

La stagione inaugurale della GT3 Revival Series si concluderà con altre due gare al Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya il 3 e 4 ottobre.
