ROCCO CORONEL DEBUTTA A IMOLA NELL’ITALIAN F4 CHAMPIONSHIP CON IL TEAM AKM MOTORSPORT

Novità in casa AKM Motorsport, che a Imola questo fine settimana porterà al debutto nell’Italian F4 Championship il giovane talento olandese Rocco Coronel. Il figlio di Tom (campione del Mondiale Turismo e del TCR Europe, con una fulgida carriera in monoposto alle spalle che nel 1997 lo ha visto conquistare il titolo della F3 giapponese), va ad aggiungersi alla squadra guidata da Marco Antonelli che come abitualmente si presenterà con tre vetture Tatuus.

Coronel, che ha ancora solamente 15 anni, si è laureato nel 2025 campione della Ginetta Junior che si disputa in Gran Bretagna e quest’anno con i colori Red Bull è alla sua prima stagione completa nella F4 spagnola in cui si è già messo in luce centrando due vittorie nel round d’apertura di Valencia.

Per il giovanissimo olandese si tratterà del debutto assoluto sul circuito del Santerno, dove verrà affiancato dagli altri due piloti Vittorio Orsini e il brasiliano Fabricio Fogaça, entrambi in cerca di un posto al sole ed ambedue quest’anno al debutto nella quarta serie.

Coronel appartiene a una vera famiglia da corsa. Tim (lo zio) è oggi uno specialista della Dakar. La madre Paulien Zwart vanta alcune partecipazioni a delle gare endurance inclusa la 24 Ore di Dubai. Illustre anche l’altro zio Raymond, fratello dei gemelli Tim e Tom.

Il programma di Imola entrerà nel vivo giovedì con i test collettivi. Venerdì si svolgeranno le prove libere e, a partire dalle 17:10, le qualifiche divise in due differenti serie. La prima gara della durata di 25 minuti più un giro da completare scatterà sabato alle 11:10. Gara 2 prenderà invece il via alle 17:30. Domenica Gara 3 si svolgerà a partire dalle 9:45 del mattino, con la finale in programma alle 17:30.

There’s news at AKM Motorsport, which will bring young Dutch talent Rocco Coronel to his Italian F4 Championship debut this weekend at Imola. The son of Tom (World Touring Car and TCR Europe champion, with a distinguished single-seater career that included the 1997 Japanese F3 title), Coronel joins the team led by Marco Antonelli, which as usual will field three Tatuus cars.

Coronel, still only 15, was crowned 2025 champion of the Ginetta Junior series held in Great Britain and this year, racing for Red Bull, is in his first full season in the Spanish F4 championship, where he has already made a name for himself with two victories in the opening round in Valencia.

This will be the young Dutchman’s debut on the Santerno circuit, where he will be joined by two other drivers, Vittorio Orsini and Brazilian Fabricio Fogaça, both seeking a place in the sun and both making their debut in the fourth series this year.

Coronel comes from a true racing family. Tim (his uncle) is now a Dakar specialist. His mother, Paulien Zwart, has participated in several endurance races, including the 24 Hours of Dubai. His other uncle, Raymond, brother of twins Tim and Tom, is also illustrious.

The Imola program will get underway on Thursday with the collective tests. Free practice will take place on Friday, followed by qualifying, starting at 5:10 PM, split into two separate heats. The first race, lasting 25 minutes plus one lap, will start on Saturday at 11:10 AM. Race 2 will start at 5:30 PM. Race 3 on Sunday will take place starting at 9:45 a.m., with the final scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
