Nürburgring launches decisive phase of GT World Challenge powered by AWS campaign
GT World Challenge powered by AWS will start back up next weekend from August 28 to 30, featuring a three-hour Endurance Cup race at the Nürburgring. This race kicks off a crucial phase in the 2026 season, with 55 cars competing at this historic track, which has hosted 15 GT World Challenge events since 2012. The upcoming weeks will include four races in total during eight weeks, with two each for the Sprint Cup and Endurance Cup, concluding at Portimão in mid-October. There is a chance that some of this year’s Endurance Cup champions may be announced in Germany.
The event will showcase a lineup that includes the Lamborghini Super Trofeo, the GT3 Revival Series, and the Mazda MX-5 Cup Benelux. Fans can enjoy additional activities at the Nürburgring, including pit walks and autograph sessions, allowing them to interact with the cars and drivers. The venue is renowned for its blend of motorsport culture and stunning Eifel scenery.
The Nürburgring is a well-known location for GT World Challenge, hosting many events, second only to Spa-Francorchamps. This year’s race will feature 55 cars from 10 manufacturers, marking the first race since the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa, where Porsche won and Mercedes-AMG Team Mann-Filter placed second. Maro Engel, Lucas Auer, and Luca Stolz from Mann-Filter can secure the championship title by finishing in fourth place or better, regardless of their competitors’ performances.
In class standings, the Gold Cup has a tight race, with only eight points between Garage 59 (McLaren) and ROWE Racing (BMW). Team WRT (BMW) holds a strong lead in the Silver class and is likely to clinch the title with one round remaining. Kessel Racing (Ferrari) is well-positioned to defend its Bronze title after winning at Spa.
The Nürburgring is a key site in motorsport and is a must-see for fans. The area is full of racing culture, with memorabilia commonly found in local bars and businesses. The region itself is beautiful, featuring the Eifel mountains and the historic Nürburg castle visible from the track.
Throughout the weekend, fans will have chances to engage in the action. On Saturday, the public can enter the pit lane at 17:55 to watch pit stop practices. On Sunday, there will be an autograph session from 12:30 to 13:10, followed by a pit walk from 13:45 to 14:15. Fans can also see the BMW M3 Touring 24H, which gained popularity during the Nürburgring 24 Hours.
There are several merchandise shops at the circuit selling a variety of souvenirs, including shirts, hats, stickers, and unique items like a toaster that imprints the Nordschleife layout on toast.
On-track activity during the Nürburgring weekend includes the return of Lamborghini Super Trofeo, with only nine points separating the top three crews. The Pro standings are tightly contested, and the Eifel venue marks the Super Trofeo’s 14th appearance there. The GT3 Revival Series will make its first appearance, focusing on earlier generations of GT3 cars, and the Pro-Am title could also be decided at this event.
The Mazda MX-5 Cup Benelux, a one-make series popular among new and experienced drivers, will also feature at the Nürburgring, marking the fourth of six planned events.
Ticket prices begin at €10 for Friday, €20 for Saturday, and €30 for Sunday, with a weekend pass available for €40. Children aged 11 and under can enter for free with a paying adult, and there are discounted rates for those aged 12 to 17 and concessions for disabled spectators. For those unable to attend in person, races will be streamed live on the GT World YouTube channel, starting with Free Practice 1 at 10:50 on Saturday.
