FIA Formula Regional European Championship – Hungaroring delivers a weekend of mixed fortunes for PREMA Racing
The PREMA Racing team had a mixed weekend at Hungaroring with their three-driver lineup. Tomass Stolcermanis stood out during Saturday’s qualifying, finishing third in his group and starting sixth for Race 1. Kean Nakamura-Berta improved to third in his group for Sunday’s qualifying, starting sixth for Race 2, while Stolcermanis and Salim Hanna were placed eighteenth and twenty-second, respectively.
In Race 1, Stolcermanis achieved his best result of the season by finishing fifth. Nakamura-Berta moved up three places to take tenth after starting thirteenth, while Hanna finished thirteenth after starting from eighteenth. In Race 2, Nakamura-Berta performed well, starting sixth and finishing fourth on track, later promoted to third due to post-race penalties for other drivers. This placed him 21 points behind the new Championship leader, Rashid Al Dhaheri, after the championship leader Sebastian Wheldon retired from both races. Stolcermanis was competitive but was involved in an incident that ended his race, and Hanna also retired due to contact on the track.
Looking ahead, Round 6 will occur at Circuit Paul Ricard. Nakamura-Berta reflected on the weekend as challenging but noted potential for improvement, while Stolcermanis felt they made progress despite difficulties in Sunday’s qualifying and Race 2. Hanna expressed frustration with lacking pace but was pleased with his overtaking performance in Race 1. He indicated a need for adjustments before the next race.
