TCR Europe – NIC TAYLOR, ANCORA LEADER DEL CAMPIONATO, MA CON IL PRIMO ZERO DELL’ANNO

L’ultimo evento del TCR Europe in Ungheria è stato difficile per Nicolas Taylor, che ha mostrato buone prestazioni nonostante la zavorra e ha mantenuto la leadership in campionato, chiudendo il fine settimana con il primo zero del 2026.

Sin dall’inizio, il weekend all’Hungaroring ha rappresentato una sfida per Taylor e l’Audi, sia a causa dei 30 chili di zavorra sia per un tracciato difficoltoso per la RS 3 LMS TCR. Nonostante queste difficoltà, Taylor ha cercato di mantenere risultati costanti e ha qualificato la sua auto in P11, perdendo la pole position per soli quattro centesimi di secondo. Si è sentito frustrato per il risultato delle qualifiche, dato che il team ha dato il massimo.

Sabato, la gara è iniziata bene per Nicolas, che ha guadagnato posizioni, partendo da P6 dopo il primo giro. Tuttavia, un contatto con un altro pilota lo ha costretto a perdere posizioni. Taylor ha tagliato il traguardo in P11, ma grazie a delle penalità è risultato ottavo, ottenendo punti importanti per la classifica.

Nella gara 1, ha manifestato il desiderio di fare meglio poiché sapeva di poter rimanere nelle posizioni più alte. Sebbene sia riuscito a tenere la sua posizione iniziale, un contatto gli ha fatto perdere il ritmo e diverse posizioni, ma ha comunque accumulato punti, anche se non quanti sperava.

La gara 2 ha presentato ulteriori difficoltà. Taylor ha perso posizioni all’inizio e ha dovuto lottare con il suo compagno di squadra Nicola Baldan. La gara si è conclusa prematuramente per lui a causa di un contatto con Baldan, risultando in un doppio ritiro per la squadra, segnando il primo zero della stagione per entrambi i piloti.

Nicolas si è detto molto deluso per il suo rendimento e per l’incidente con il compagno di squadra, scusandosi con il team per quanto accaduto. Ha descritto la gara come una delle sue peggiori prestazioni e ha espresso la volontà di rinfrescare le idee durante la pausa estiva, guardando avanti con ottimismo verso il prossimo evento a Monza, dove arriverà da leader del campionato.

Nonostante le difficoltà, ci sono aspetti positivi: i principali avversari di Nicolas non sono riusciti a sfruttare i suoi risultati per accorciare il gap in classifica, e lui ha concluso il weekend perdendo solo 4 punti sulla seconda posizione, mantenendo così la leadership nel campionato.

Dopo un’interruzione di due mesi e mezzo, il TCR Europe riprenderà a fine settembre con il penultimo round a Monza, che rappresenta la seconda gara di casa per PMA Motorsport.

I risultati dell’Hungaroring includono prove libere con una posizione di P13 e P8, qualifiche con P11 e gare con P8 in gara 1 e DNF (do not finish) in gara 2.

The final TCR Europe event in Hungary was a difficult one for Nicolas Taylor, who performed well despite the ballast and maintained his championship lead, finishing the weekend with his first zero points of 2026.

From the start, the weekend at the Hungaroring posed a challenge for Taylor and Audi, both due to the 30 kilos of ballast and a difficult track for the RS 3 LMS TCR. Despite these difficulties, Taylor strived to maintain consistent results and qualified his car in P11, missing out on pole position by just four hundredths of a second. He was frustrated with the qualifying result, given that the team had given it their all.

On Saturday, the race started well for Nicolas, who gained positions, starting from P6 after the first lap. However, contact with another driver forced him to drop back. Taylor crossed the finish line in P11, but thanks to penalties, he finished eighth, earning important points for the championship.

In race 1, he expressed a desire to do better, knowing he could stay in the top positions. Although he managed to hold his starting position, a collision caused him to lose pace and several positions, but he still accumulated points, though not as many as he had hoped.

Race 2 presented further difficulties. Taylor lost positions at the start and had to battle with his teammate Nicola Baldan. The race ended prematurely for him due to a collision with Baldan, resulting in a double retirement for the team, marking the first zero points of the season for both drivers.

Nicolas expressed his deep disappointment with his performance and the incident with his teammate, apologizing to the team for what happened. He described the race as one of his worst performances and expressed his desire to refresh his thoughts during the summer break, looking ahead with optimism to the next event in Monza, where he will arrive as the championship leader.

Despite the challenges, there are positives: Nicolas’s main rivals failed to capitalize on his results to close the gap in the standings, and he finished the weekend only four points shy of second place, thus maintaining his championship lead.

After a two-and-a-half-month hiatus, TCR Europe will resume at the end of September with the penultimate round at Monza, marking PMA Motorsport’s second home race.

Results at the Hungaroring include free practice finishes of P13 and P8, qualifying with a P11, and a race with a P8 finish in Race 1 and a DNF (do not finish) in Race 2.
