The Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland has just reached the mid-season mark. If the first two meetings laid many traps for the Schumacher CLRT Racing Team’s two Porsche 911 Cups to cope with, the trips to Spa and Zandvoort were crowned with successes! 4 starts, 3 victories and a second place overall for Flynt Schuring, 4 Rookie class wins for Chester Kieffer who, what’s more, scored his first overall podium finish in the series! The Dutchman and the driver from Luxembourg are back on track in pursuit of their respective aims, and looking forward to the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup kick off in Monaco. Before this major rendezvous, the engineer, Benjamin Floch, enlightened us about one of this year’s key talking points – the arrival of the Porsche 911 Cup generation 992.2 and the adoption of ABS.

Spa did not blow hot and cold, rather dry and wet. No problems and same results for Schuring on Saturday and Sunday: two pole positions and two lights-to flag victories with as many fastest laps as the icing on the cake!

Chester Kieffer fought his corner in the pack. He was never lower than 1st place in the Rookie category while improving his position on the track between the start and the finish: from 9th to 8th, in race 1. and from 6th to 5th in race 2.

A Dutchman and a Luxembourgeois who claimed the spoils in Belgium! A real Ode to Joy to be celebrated in Bénélux! All the more so as straight afterwards the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland’s cavalcade set off for the Netherlands. At Zandvoort, race 1 was interrupted at half-distance by a collision and was only restarted in the late afternoon after the guardrails had been repaired. Flynt Schuring managed to take the lead during the first encounter, and went on to clinch his fourth victory of the season as well as setting a new lap record. Chester Kieffer put on his best qualifying performance in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland that gave him a place on the outside of the front row. He finished third overall, winning the Rookie category!

In race 2 Schuring did his damnest to bag another victory in front of his home crowd before having to settle for second place. Kieffer suffered the ravages of wheel-to-wheel combat dropping him from 4th to 12th place although he still managed to fend off all the Rookies. So far he has won the category five times – in fact every time he’s finished the race!

These flattering results lead one to think that the change to the new 911 Cup has gone smoothy for Schumacher CLRT Racing Team. Engineer Benjamin Floch tells us: «Such an evolution is always a major challenger for a team. Mechanically the 992.2 isn’t a new car, but three points required our attention: the ABS, the aerodynamic evolution and above all the tyres which influence several parametres. You have to understand how they work. After that, the job is simply to adapt. We carried out tests; we tried to get information to reduce the field of possibilities so we could take the right setup decisions.”

Concerning the ABS, does it help a pro driver, used to mastering the art of braking, to go faster? “Yes is the answer as without the ABS he has to be careful to avoid locking up a wheel, or damaging a tyre while hitting the brakes, so he needs to keep a small margin in reserve. The ABS allows him to exploit the car’s potential to the full!”

In the early part of the season we could see that the ABS had probably influenced a factor that the engineers couldn’t control – race incidents. And in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland, It’s a non-stop battle! “You might be the quickest, but sometimes race incidents intervene; you can’t deny it. The smaller the gaps between the drivers, as is the case in this championship, the more risks there are. We’ve seen a few incidents just because of the time taken to adapt to ABS. Certain drivers said to themselves: ‘I need to leave less margin because I have ABS’. But if you brake too late with or without ABS, the problem’s still the same. The Race Director had to bring together the drivers at the Red Bull Ring to cool them down, but since then he congratulates them at every briefing for their on-track behaviour. Generally speaking, we see some great races in this German Carrera Cup.”

At the mid-season mark, Schuring is back in second place in the championship ratings while Kieffer is eighth and leader of the Rookies. But the drivers entered in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup have a blank page in front of them on which they hope to write their 2026 exploits! First chapter: Monaco 4 – 7 June!
