AVF suffers double retirement at Jerez
The 2015 Formula Renault 3.5 season ended up with a double retirement for AVF at Jerez De La Frontera. The team, led by Adrián Vallés, saw both drivers Beitske Visser and Alfonso Celis Jr. being involved in contacts that prevented them from making it to the checkered flag. With qualifying going underway later than scheduled due to the heavy precipitations that hit the southern Spanish region, Alfonso scored the 5th fastest lap while Beitske ended up in 15th. At the start though, the Mexican was hit by Stoneman and that left him with a broken front wing, while Beitske, who had recovered up to the points zone, was hit by Marlon Stockinger in a re-start situation and had to retire.
Alfonso Celis Jr. (#15) Qualifying 2: P5 1’47”056 – Race 2: DNF
“I think there’s plenty of reasons to be satisfied with qualifying because we did a great job. I led for more than 20 minutes and that proves how easily we reached our limit. It’s been a pity for the race, because I didn’t have an optimal start and then Stoneman hit me. It’s frustrating, but there was nothing I could do”.
Beitske Visser (#16) Qualifying 2: P15 1’48”545 – Race 2: DNF
“This morning, with the rain, qualifying has been a disaster. I was simply too slow. In the afternoon, the race seemed to go pretty well, we were fast and I passed several other cars up to the ninth spot. Then at the re-start from a safety-car situation I was hit and sent spinning, and that was the end of my day”.
