The first-ever SRO GT4 Sprint Cup Europe will join the DTM at the Hockenheimring on October 12-14 as the European GT4 season comes to close. After the dramatic GT4 European Series season final at the Nürburgring and the upcoming GT4 Central European Cup and GT4 France finals, the GT4 Sprint Cup Europe gives the teams the ultimate chance to race in Europe. GT4 cars from Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, KTM, Ginetta and Ekris are set to compete in Germany.
Before several teams head out to Bahrain to compete with their counterparts from all over the world in the GT4 International Cup on November 30 and December 1, the GT4 Sprint Cup Europe will provide them the final opportunity to race in Europe and showcase their team to new drivers.
German-built GT4 cars like the BMW M4 GT4, Mercedes-AMG GT4 and Porsche Cayman GT4 will be raced by German teams at Hockenheim. The three German brands will be facing competition from cars built by KTM, Ginetta and Ekris.
RN Vision STS will represent BMW at the Hockenheimring, with two BMW M4 GT4 confirmed already by the Mönchengladbach-based team, that scored four class wins in this year’s GT4 European Series. Allied-Racing from Huglfing, Germany, has entered a pair of Porsche Cayman GT4 CS MRs for the event.
Schütz Motorsport and stalwart GT team HTP Motorsport will enter Mercedes-AMG GT4s at the Hockenheimring, while the GT4 Sprint Cup Europe will also see the Ekris M4 GT4 back in action with 2017 GT4 European Series champions Ekris Motorsport. Reiter will enter its agile KTM X-Bow GT4.
The three-day event, which will be part of the DTM support programme for its season finale, features a pair of 40-minute races on the 4.574 km track and is open to Silver and Bronze rated drivers. Pirelli has been appointed by SRO Motorsports Group as the Official Tyre Supplier of the event.
First practice at the Hockenheimring gets underway at 10.45 CEST on Friday, followed by a second practice session at 13.50 and qualifying at 16.35. The opening race of the weekend will start at 15.25 on Saturday after the first DTM race, with the second race planned for Sunday at 12.50 after DTM qualifying.
