Guillem Pujeu scores double win and second place to give F4 Spain title charge a big boost

The Spaniard completed a superb weekend claiming two race wins and a second place during F4 Spain Championship’s Round 4 at the Circuito de Jerez Ángel Nieto. With just one round left, Pujeu will head to Navarra ranking second a mere two points behind series leader Cordeel.

Guillem Pujeu delivered a strong performance during the penultimate round of the F4 Spain series held at the Circuito de Jerez Ángel Nieto last weekend. After Lady Luck wasn’t on his side in the last races, Pujeu claimed a double win to strengthen his title bid.

Pujeu was in the top-three during the free practice sessions showing an excellent qualifying and race pace. In Q1, the driver of FA Racing clocked a time of 1m45.617s to rank second a mere tenth of a second slower than pole-sitter Amaury Cordeel. However, the Belgian driver handed a ten-place grid penalty from Barcelona and was demoted to the back of the grid with Pujeu inheriting the pole. Pujeu took a lights-to-flag win ahead of Cordeel, who finished seven seconds behind. Pujeu also set the fastest lap.

On Sunday, Pujeu was in a league of his own in qualifying as he posted an unbeatable pole position of 1m44.172s, over three tenths of a second quicker than Cordeel. Race 2 saw a head-to-head battle involving Pujeu and Cordeel. Cordeel got under pressure from Pujeu and was given a penalty for not respecting track limits. Therefore, Pujeu claimed his fifth win of the season. In Race 3, Cordeel moved past Pujeu at the start. The Spaniard made several overtaking maneuvers but finally took no risks to secure a valuable second place for the championship. After Jerez, Pujeu sits second in the Drivers’ standings on 163 points after the deduction of the two worst results of each driver.

“I’m extremely pleased about how the weekend went. Finally we managed to show our real potential, just like at Motorland. Finally everything worked according our plan. I would like to thank to FA Racing and its staff such an amazing car, because my Tatuus-Abarth proved perfect every moment we hit the track. Our two wins and the second place show that! Of course I would also like to thank my family, friends, fans and sponsors for their support. This is just possible with their support” said Pujeu. He added: “this event was a real wake-up call for our rivals. Because our results explain how strong we will arrive In Los Arcos in November. Just two points separate me from Cordeel, so it’s going to be a close end of season! And González and Azman will be in title contention as well. So we need to continue working in the coming weeks because we need to keep this level.”
