Kevin Ceccon, a winner in Auto GP, Formula 3 and GP3, will make his debut in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO in Slovakia this week.
The 24-year-old talent has been called up to replace Gianni Morbidelli at Team Mulsanne. Partnering touring car legend Fabrizio Giovanardi in the Italian squad, Ceccon will drive a second Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR by Romeo Ferraris in the Slovakia Ring triple-header from 13-15 July.
Michela Cerruti, Operations Manager at Romeo Ferraris, said: “We are ready to welcome in our family a new member, Kevin Ceccon, a very promising young driver on the international scene, who has already proven his talent and professionalism in single-seater formula. To make his touring car debut immediately in the WTCR is a real challenge for him, but we believe in his potential.”
Ceccon has pedigree in karting and single-seater racing, winning the Auto GP title in 2011 when he also become the youngest GP2 Series driver aged 17. He also has experience in the European Le Mans Series and Blancpain GT and took part in the Formula One Young Driver Test at Abu Dhabi in 2011 with Toro Rosso, becoming the youngest Italian to drive a Formula One car in public.
“I want to thank Romeo Ferraris and Team Mulsanne for this call,” said Ceccon. “I wasn’t expecting this chance as my 2018 on the sportive side was a very poor year so far. Being part of the FIA WTCR is a dream come true, I used to watch all the races on Eurosport and I’ve also commented once, but now I can’t believe I’ll be on track with them in Slovakia! It will be a hard challenge but I’m motivated to give 110 per cent of my potential to drive the Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR by Romeo Ferraris.”
