Formula 4 UAE – SA driver Jonathan dominates Gulf series

South Africa’s Jonathan Aberdein is the 2016-17 Formula 4 UAE champion.

The Cape Town driver delivered a crushing performance to put his Motopark Racing Taatus-Abarth on pole position for the first race of the Abu Dhabi final weekend, before storming off to an 8-second victory to wrap up the title. Aberdein then came from behind to win the reverse-grid second race and ended up a close second in the season finale.

“That was a great way to end off a strong campaign in the UAE,” Jonathan admitted. “I’ve really enjoyed my time racing here, but now its time to focus fully on winning the German F4 Championship.”

Jonathan won fourteen races from 18 starts in the Emirates series, with a couple of seconds, a third and one seventh position through his dominant campaign and he also scored ten pole positions in the process through his preparations for his principal focus this year – to continue his winning ways into the German ADAC Formula F4 Championship starting 28-30 April at Oschersleben.

It will be Jonathan’s second season in the premier German championship with the Motopark team following a strong rookie year in 2016 and now his dominant UAE title, where he raced the same car he will use in Germany.

“I would like to extend a huge word of thanks to my team Motopark,” Jonathan concluded.”You guys have done an exceptional job in the last 12 months – our success comes from hard work and dedication from a truly remarkable team from Oschersleben. “Your ability to coach and develop young talent is unquestionable – thank you Timo and the team!”
