Academy to Re-Join British GT grid at Silverstone & Spa events

Reigning British GT class champion squad Academy Motorsport will re-join the championship grid at the upcoming mid-season rounds at Silverstone and Spa.

The Pershore-based outfit, which scored last season’s GT4 class teams’ title, will field a single Aston Martin Vantage GT4 machine in the capable hands of Dennis Strandberg. The Swede was part of a two-car line up which helped the team to clinch last season’s crown.

The GT4 grid will expand for both the Silverstone and Spa events with the European GT4 Series, like British GT having also switched to Pirelli rubber this season, joining the field.

The three-hour Silverstone 500 event takes place on June 11-12, with the two-hour Spa encounter scheduled for July 8-9.

The team is actively searching for a team-mate for Strandberg. Team boss Matt Nicoll-Jones, said: “Although the team has opted not to place a full-time entry into the championship this season, we just couldn’t turn down this opportunity.

“With there looking to be up to 55 cars on track during both races with the inclusion of the European Series machines, we just had to enter to show what the team and the Vantage can do in the right hands.

“But mainly, we just want to go and have fun!”
