Alfonso Celis set fastest lap of Race 2 for AVF in Alcaniz

The opening weekend of the 2015 World Series Renault was completed today at Motorland Aragón and the AVF by Adrián Vallés team starred in Race 2 of the F.Renault 3.5 event. The race itself turned out to be an extremely tough one due to the adverse weather conditions. An hefty rainfall hit the track right before the start, forcing the stewards to send the safety-car out for the initial stages. After five laps behind the leading car though, the cars were called back to the pit-lane with a red flag.

At the re-start, Beitske Visser suffered from a puncture and had to make her way slowly back to the pits. The incident cost her the chance to fight for a points finish, and she ended up in 19th.

On the other hand, her Mexican team-mate Alfonso Celis Jr delivered a strong performance as he crossed the line in 9th before being promoted to 8th due to a penalty issued to a rival. Alfonso also logged the fastest lap of the day, lapping in 1’58”333 on rain tires.

Alfonso Celis Jr (#15) Qualy 1: P10 1’41”963. Race 2: P8 +34”717

“We got a great result today. We made it to the points zone, I set the fastest lap of the day and ended up second among rookie. I managed the race situations well and also battled with some much more experienced driver than me. For the first time in my career, I also faced (and completed) a race featuring a pit-stop. I’m really satisfied and I’m sure that we have all what it takes to do well at Monte Carlo too”.

Beitske Visser (#16) Qualy 1: P11 1’42”085. Race 2: P19 +1’14”210

“It hasn’t been a lucky weekend for me. After yesterday’s gearbox problem, I got a flat tire today at the re-start and had to slowly get around the track before replacing it in the pits. This clearly jeopardized any chance for a recovery”.
