He won the 2012 ADAC Formula Masters championship title and triumphed in the ATS Formula 3 Cup: champion Marvin Kirchhöfer. Alessio Picariello is now following in his footsteps. The current ADAC Formula Masters champion completed tests for the German Formula 3. The 20-year old Belgian driver met with Performance Racing in Barcelona. An extremely effective day of testing. The successful collaboration between the Formula 3 Association and its partner, the ADAC, made this day of tests for a higher class as an additional reward for winning the ADAC Formula Masters series possible.
The professional development of Alessio Picariello has been quite impressive. He was extremely successful in karting and then made the switch to Formula racing, subsequently winning the 2013 ADAC Formula Masters championship. The 20-year Belgian driver has what it takes to make a successful start in the ATS Formula 3 Cup. And he just completed a few tests with the Performance Racing team from Silverstone, to see how it could function in practice. “I was quite impressed,” says Team Principal Bobby Issazadhe. “Alessio is a really good race driver and has the tools for Formula 3.” It was very first time for Picariello at the wheel of a Formula 3 car. However, he adjusted quickly. “Well, there is much more power and much more downforce than in a ADAC Formula car, but the basic driving style is the same, you just need to get to the high speed corners which is very different from an ADAC Formula car,” reports the Belgian. “I loved it and will do everything in order to drive this car next year.” Formula 3 sports is the direction he intends to take and the ATS Formula 3 Cup is an attractive option.
Important career opportunities
The winner of the ADAC Formula Masters series gets the chance to complete a day of testing for the German Formula 3. This opportunity for young talents is the result of a great collaboration between the ADAC and the Formula 3 Association. It will be extended in 2014, when the races of the individual series take place at the same racing weekends. Fans of Formula racing will therefore always be able to enjoy two series. Drivers contesting the ADAC Formula Masters, who want to see what the next step in their career could look like, will have a chance to watch the races of the ATS Formula 3 Cup closely.
