ATS Formel 3 Cup – Newcomer CR Racing Team is raring to go

Three drivers will contest the upcoming ATS Formula 3 Cup season in the Trophy ranking for CR Racing Team. While the ATS Formula 3 Cup is new territory for both Team Principal Andreas Germann and Thomas Warken, the third driver has competed in the series before. Christian Zeller contested twelve races in the German Formula 3 between 2003 and 2007. This year, the team from Pirmasens have a new lineup.

Christian Zeller has a lot of experience on race tracks. The driver from Freiburg finished last year’s Austria Formula 3 Cup season in fourth place after a good season for the CR Racing Team from Pirmasens. They will contest the 2013 ATS Formula 3 Cup season supported by the Formula 3 Motorsports Association from Pirmasens. Having been involved in Formula sports since 1999, Zeller intends to achieve more success in his Dallara F308 with a Mercedes engine in 2013. “I have fond memories of my guest stints, especially of the good organisational work by Bertram Schäfer, but also of some cold deformations,” says Zeller.

Thomas Warken contested the 2012 Austria Formula 3 Cup season for the Franz Wöss Racing team. The driver from Püttling celebrated an unexpected victory at his guest stint in the Interserie championship during the DTM event. “Sporting success is essential but having fun with racing should be just as important,” says Warken, who will contest the 2013 season in a Dallara F303 OPC Challenge.

The team principal of the CR Racing Team, Andreas Germann, will also take part in a Dallara F305/07 OPC Challenge. He will enter the ATS Formula 3 Cup with his own team for the very first time. “We are a pretty young team. I guess, I have the least experience of the three of us, but we will do our best,” says the driver from the Palatine. “Our team is only complete with our race photographer, Heinz Mösinger, who documents all of our successes.” Germann has been involved in motorsports since the 1980s and secured several podiums in the Interserie championship last season.

Newcomer is raring to go
The CR Racing Team has its origin in 2009, based on the idea of being involved in motorsports. The founders of the team, Klaus Schäfer and Team Principal Andreas Germann, were friends. Schäfer was not able to see the positive development of the CR Racing Team – he died suddenly in 2010. It was him who made up the team’s name. CR stands for Claus Ritter. Germann fulfilled a dream by continuing his career in racing in 2010 under this alias. “I knew that it would not remain a secret for long,” says Germann. “That is why I am not using an alias any more these days. However, the name Claus Ritter will remain a part of our name, CR Racing Team, in honour of Klaus Schäfer.”
