ATS Formel 3 Cup – Tough competition for the title

Thomas Jäger will contest the 2013 season for Performance Racing. The 18-year old from Vienna has set himself a goal: to win the ATS Formula 3 Cup for the Silverstone based team. The Austrian also stood out in the ADAC Formel Masters last year. All in all, he secured five podium places and won the race in Oschersleben. And now, he intends to take the next leap forward in the ATS Formula 3 Cup. His policy: no self-doubts.

At the moment, Thomas Jäger and Performance Racing are still training and practising separately. The team from the famous Silverstone circuit is assembling the cars while the driver from Vienna is training in the gym at home. Several hours a day are on his schedule in order to be fit for the upcoming test days on Lausitzring, where the driver, the team and the car will do the final tests for tuning. Jäger is aware that the competition will be tough this year. “I think a lot of very good drivers will participate this season. This became obvious during the tests in Valencia, we all finished within a few tenth of a second,” says the Austrian. “That is why it will be important to do a great job throughout the season – on and off the track – and to make as few mistakes as possible.”

Final tests for the driver and the team
The 18-year old has been handling his Dallara F311 Volkswagen Power Engine very well. “The car has a lot of downforce and power, and driving something like that is just a great feeling!” His team cannot wait for the pre-season tests of 2013 to start. Team Principal Bobby Issazadhe made the right decision by choosing Thomas Jäger: “We had a successful winter test program with Thomas, so we are absolutely delighted that he selected Performance Racing and ATS Formula 3 Cup for his rookie Formula 3 season. The step up from ADAC Formel Masters to ATS Formula 3 Cup is very logical and proven successful in the past by drivers such as Daniel Abt and Richie Stanaway.”

Targeting the victory without self-doubts
The driver and the team principal agree that the goal is to be on top of the podium. “Thomas is very ambitious, motivated and hardworking and testing has shown great speed. We have every reason to believe that Thomas will be racing for the title in ATS Formula 3 Cup.” Jäger is not only able to drive extremely well but also has strong nerves. He is said not to be nervous before a race or during battles on the track. “This is due to the fact that I am very confident about myself and about what I do. I am sure that this is very important in sports. You should never doubt yourself if you want to achieve something!”

The Performance Racing team will contest the season with a total of three drivers. Another one will be announced shortly.
